Subject: Pennsylvania Discrepancy in NRI-Census Data

I note that there appears to be a significant discrepancy in the data between NRI and the Census of Agriculture for the state of PA.

In 1997, NRI has the four farmland categories of cropland, pastureland, rangeland and CRP land at 7.147 million acres, compared to 8.048m in 1992.

In 1997 the Census of Ag places PA farmland at 7.168m acres, compared to 7.190 in 1992.

At the national level there is less than a 0.5 percent difference between these NRI and Census figures in both 1992 and 1997

Could you please explain the discrepancy in PA?
