Wendell Cox Elected Vice-President of CODATU

Paris (1 December 2003): Wendell Cox, principal of Wendell Cox Consultancy (www.demographia.com, www.publicpurpose.com) and the Conservatoire National des Arts et Metiers in Paris was elected as one of three CODATU vice-presidents at a meeting in Paris on 29 November. CODATU ("Cooperation for Urban Mobility in the Developing World") is an international transport research and implementation organization dedicated to improving urban transport in developing nations.

Christian Phillipe, a member of the French National Assembly, was re-elected as President. Professor Jean-Claude Ziv of the Conservatoire National des Arts et Metiers (Paris) was re-elected as General Secretary. Professor Ali Huzayyin of the University of Cairo was also elected as first-vice-president and Joseph Barat of the Institut Formation in Sao Paulo was elected as a vice-president. Michel Laramee of Connex was elected treasurer.

Mr. Cox was also elected as a member of the General Council of CODATU. Earlier this year he was also appointed to the Scientific Committee, under the leadership of Slobodan Mitric of the World Bank.

CODATU sponsors international seminars and conferences the last general conference (CODATU X) was held in Lome, Togo in 2002. The CODATU XI World Congress will be held in Bucharest 22-24 April 2004. At the Paris meeting it was decided that CODATU XII will be held in Bogota in 2006.
